Baby Jogger city tour 2 Review – Perfect Travel Stroller for Newborns

The Baby Jogger city tour 2 is one of the most popular travel strollers in Australia right now and it’s easy to see why. Because if you’re looking for a lightweight, compact, easy to use, quick fold travel stroller that is also perfect for just throwing in the car for quick errands and zipping around the shops AND had a full recline for newborns or proper naps then the Baby Jogger city tour 2 is for you!

Newborn Ready With Three Different Riding Options

The newborn ready recline is one of the most stand out features of the Baby Jogger city tour 2. When it was released in 2019 the city tour 2 was more or less the only true travel sized stroller with a flat recline suitable for a newborn. It was a trend setting moment for the travel stroller market.

Now there are a few other options that do have that full recline (check out Best Travel Strollers 2023) but none quite as a compact.

However, not only does the city tour 2 offer a fully flat recline, so is ready to go from birth, it also has the option of using a bassinet for your newborn, which is sold separately, or can be paired with a Baby Jogger City Go capsule with the use of adapters (also sold separately) to make it a travel system.

So you have three different ways to transport your newborn.

One handed compact fold

Baby Jogger as a brand is known for their impressively easy “pull to fold” feature and so of course the city tour 2 is no exception.

I have even helped another parent work out how exactly they can fold AND open the city tour 2 while holding their baby on their hip the whole time (opening with one hand took some practice with releasing the fold latch on the side – but it was possible)

Although I have also found about 2% of people find the fold a little tricky so I have made this video going through the fold in detail just in case you’re one of them.

One Of The Tallest Seats On The Market

The seat height is SO impressive, given that it is also one of the lightest and most compact prams. My very tall seven year old can sit in the Baby Jogger city tour 2. Admittedly she does exceed the weight limit, but I’m confident that no matter how tall your toddler or preschooler is there’s no way they will outgrow the height of this seat. Also despite it’s tiny size and weight the Baby Jogger City Tour 2 still feels surprisingly robust, and so you will get many years of use out of it.
Just My Favourite Little Pram

As I said this is my favourite* travel stroller at the moment. It just ticks so many boxes. And I think the best part about this stroller is that I really could see families using it every day as the pram they keep in their boot for shopping trips and quick outings. It’s definitely not an all terrain walking pram, it has small wheels and no suspension, but it will handle shopping centres, footpaths and airports with ease.

Baby Jogger City Tour vs Baby Jogger City Tour 2

I absolutely loved the older version of this pram, the Baby Jogger City Tour (which I have also reviewed). At the time it was my top pick for travel stroller, but it did have a few limitations, which have been addressed with the latest version of the City Tour. Also it’s worth noting unlike other Baby Jogger prams these prams won’t be sold side by side. The City Tour has been discontinued and has been replaced by the City Tour 2. So it’s unlikely you’ll be choosing between one or the other. But it’s still worth knowing what’s been changed.

It is essentially the same pram. The Baby Jogger City Tour 2 is slightly bigger all round. It’s a little bit taller, a little bit wider and a little bit bigger folded than the original City Tour. It’s also 100 grams heavier. Though these size differences are so slight they’re barely noticeable even when you have the prams side by side.

The City Tour 2 now also has an adjustable footrest, that not only gives your baby or toddler a comfortable place to rest their legs, but also allows access to the basket from the front and back of the pram.

But the BIGGEST update between the city tour and city tour 2 is the newborn riding options. The city tour was strictly 6month+ whereas the city tour 2 offers THREE newborn options: full seat recline as well as optional capsule or cot (sold separately).
